The History of Uncle Sam
Uncle Sam is originally linked to Samuel Wilson, an entrepreneurial meat packer and major supplier of beef to the US Army during the War of 1812. Wilson stamped his meat barrels with “U.S.” for United States, but soldiers began referring to the grub as “Uncle Sam’s.”
